
Essentials
This course, which is designed as the first level of Web Design, will teach students workplace and leadership skills for advancement into the Web Design Application course. Keying and layout and design skills are essential. Students will develop Internet research techniques for business; acquire navigation mapping skills; effectively use a Web site; study fundamental concepts of digital commerce transaction security; examine related social, legal and ethical issues; study electronic financial management practices, and integrate the elements of Web Design.
Web Design Essentials focuses on the language, structure, and essential concepts and principles of page layout and design and the ethics related to the production of Internet presentations. Typography layout, and design guidelines will be applied in the design of Web pages. Upon completion of the course, a student will be able to evaluate, implement and apply the use of technology in Digital Commerce and Web Page Design for business.

Week One

Week Two - August 15 - 19
- Write 3 prgs about your weekend.
- What if rain sprayed up from the ground instead of falling from the sky? Invent something that might keep you dry. Describe your invention, then draw it. 3prgs.
- Pretend that you are invisible for one day. Describe your day. would being invisible be fun, or would it cause problems? 3prgs.
- What if you woke up one day with your head on backwards? How would you walk? Could you see where you were going? How would you brush your teeth? Describe how you would get through your day. 3prgs.
- Write 3 prgs about your week in Review. Looking back what would you change, why? How can you learn from making the same mistakes twice?
Week Three - August 22-26
- Write 3 prgs about what is on your mind.
- What if walls could talk? Describe what they might say about your life, class? 3prgs.
- People are basically good at heart. do you agree with this statement? Why or why not? 3prgs.
- Pretend that space aliens have landed in your neighborhood. They don't understand your language. How might you communicate with them? Describe your conversation. 3prgs.
- Write 3 prgs about your week in Review. Looking back what would you change, why? How can you learn from making the same mistakes twice?
Week Four - August 29-September 2
- Whats troubling you? 3prgs.
- Imagine what life would be like without electricity. How would you cook your food? How would you stay warm or cool? What would you do after dark? Describe your life without electricity. 3 prgs.
- Imagine that today is Opposite Day. Describe some of the events planned for this unusual day. 3 prgs.
- Imagine that you are an ant hiding in the grass. Describe how you would feel as large people and animals walked all around you. List some place you could go to be safe. 3prgs.
- If you could write a comic book, what type of super hero or heroine would you write about? Describe your super hero or heroine andhis or her special powers. Then draw a picture of him or her. 3prgs.
Week Five - September 5- 9
- Monday is Labour Day! No Bellwork!
- You have found a strange, magical mask. When you put it on, you can become someone else. Whom would you become, and what might happen to you while wearing the mask? 3 prgs.

William Shakespeare said, “All the world’s a stage, / And all men and women merely players…” What do you think this means? In what ways is life similar to a play? In what ways are people similar to actors? Explain.
- "Americans Walk on Moon!" proclaimed newspaper headlines when astronaut Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon. Think of something fantastic that could happen in the future. Write a newspaper article about it. Be sure to include a headline.

It is the 1800s, and you are moving from the city to the wilderness in the American West. Your belongings are packed into a covered wagon. Write about the dangers and challenges you encounter on your trip.
Week Six - September 12-16
- You have won a shopping spree. You may go into the store of your choice and grab up as much merchandise as you can in five minutes. Which store would you choose? What would be your shopping strategy?
- In L. Frank Baum's book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the cowardly lion wanted to find courage, the scarecrow wanted a brain, and the tin man wanted aheart. what would you have asked the wizard for? Why? 3prgs.
- If you could give a homeless person one gift, what would the gift be? Why?
- When one door closes, another opens. Behind every dark cloud is a silver lining. Invent three other sayings that convey this optimistic message.
- Write 3 prgs about whatever is on your mind today.
